The Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition '68 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic in Aged Charcoal Frost Metallic brings you a stunning recreation of a late 60's era instrument. Packed with vintage specs, this Stratocaster looks well played but well loved, with a few choice upgrades along the way, and plays like a dream after the careful attention from the Custom Shop.
Features like the '69 Style "U" neck profile and Custom Shop Vintage Synchronized Tremolo completely evoke the idea of playing a truly decades old, well maintained instrument. Some of the cool, slightly more 'Extra' features include the Schaller "F" Tuning Machines, Hand-Wound Master Design "Bone-Tone" Strat® Pickups, and the 1/2 Blender wiring. Just the kind of magic you only find at the Fender Custom Shop.
There's some fine wizardry going on in this guitar. Fender's Hand-Wound Master Design "Bone-Tone" Strat® Pickups are made with fewer-than-typical turns of heavy Formvar wire, giving you a pickup that delivers that classic Strat sound with tons of headroom and clarity to maintain your playing dynamics when overdriven. These are paired with Fender's superb 1/2 Blender system, which lets you blend in the Neck Pickup when in position 1, giving you the classic Telecaster both-pickups-on style sound, or in Position 2 where it activates all 3! In total this gives you up to 7 distinct pickup settings making for one tonally powerful instrument.
This guitar's Journeyman Relic Aged finish completely evokes the idea of an instrument that's been well played but well taken care of over the decades. Taken out regularly for some serious sessions and gigs, but wiped down and put back in its case at the end of the night. The result is the gorgeous light eggshell-cracking to the finish, the discolouration and wear around the forearm bevel and that unmistakable fingerboard patina that's the sign of a real workhorse.
